About San Bernardino County Probate Court

The San Bernardino County Probate Division handles cases involving deceased people’s estates, trusts, conservatorships, and guardianships, along with petitions to establish facts of birth, death, or marriage, elder abuse petitions, and CARE Act mental health assistance cases. Because San Bernardino is a large, geographically spread-out county, probate matters are split across a few district courthouses rather than handled in one central building, with most in-person services centered in Fontana. This setup is typically used by families settling a loved one’s estate, people seeking guardianship of a minor, or those pursuing conservatorship for an adult who can’t manage their own care.

Court Access & Procedures

Probate cases are generally filed and heard at the Fontana and Victorville District courthouses, with a limited set of case types also handled at the Needles District; which location applies depends on the type of case. Filing can be done electronically through the court’s voluntary e-filing system or in person at the Probate Business Office, and hearing notes are posted online in advance through the Court Access Portal. Some hearings also offer remote video appearance options. Because filing locations vary by case type, readers should check the official court website’s location guidance before filing anything.

Note: The Probate Clerk’s Office formerly located at the San Bernardino Justice Center relocated permanently to the Fontana District in February 2024, so in-person probate services are now centered there and at Victorville.
